Matagorda County Faces Cybersecurity Breach: Officials Responding to Cybersecurity Incident
Matagorda County, Texas – Matagorda County officials have confirmed a cybersecurity breach involving a virus that has affected several internal systems. The breach, identified in the early morning hours of January 24, 2025, has prompted immediate action from county IT personnel, law enforcement, and cybersecurity experts to investigate and mitigate the issue.
The virus appears to have infiltrated the county’s network through an unauthorized access point, impacting various departments and disrupting some operations. While the breach has been contained, the full scope of the incident is still being assessed. As a precautionary measure, affected systems have been isolated, and an in-depth forensic analysis is underway to determine how the virus infiltrated the network and the extent of the damage.
At 3pm, Friday, January 24, 2025; Matagorda County Judge Bobby Seiferman issued a Declaration of Disaster based on the security breach.
